This standard encompasses requirements needed for an organization to enhance its environmental performance. The ISO 14001:2015 is meant for use by an organization that is keen on managing its environmental responsibilities in a meticulous way that contributes to nurturing the pillar of environmental sustainability.
The ISO 14001:2015 standard has been formulated to help an organization gain the intended results of its environmental management system. The aim is to provide value to the environment, the organization and the interested stakeholders.
The intended results of adopting this standard include:
· Improving the environmental sustainable quotient;
· Implementing and complying with the stipulated obligations;
· Realization of the environmental policies and goals
It is to be noted that this standard can be adopted by any institution or organization irrespective of the size, type and nature. The standard applies to the environmental purview of the organization’s activities, products and services and all that the organization deems fit to influence with respect to the lifecycle view. However, the ISO 14001:2015 does not stipulate any particular performance criteria to fulfil the environmental goals.
According to the stipulations and standards prescribed by ISO 14001:2015, it can be used fully or partially to streamline and enhance the activities towards achieving sustainable goals. For an organization to claim that it is ISO 14001:2015 compliant it should ensure all the requirements prescribed are included into its environmental management system and implemented without omission.
